Dr. Cyril Jackson (1746 – 1819)

Former Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, and Tutor to Prince Regent. He leased the Old Rectory from about 1807. He is buried in St. Mary’s Churchyard.

Kevin Watson is making an application for a blue plaque to be fixed to The Manor House on Limmer Lane, where Dr. Jackson lived from 1809 on his retirement. until his death.

Kevin writes:

Born in Yorkshire, he became an outstanding academic, educated at Manchester Grammar School, Westminster School and Christ Church College, Oxford University. In 1799 he was appointed to the Preachership at Lincoln’s Inn, London and took a leading role in framing the statute which, in 1802, launched the system of public examinations.

 

Cyril Jackson lived in The Manor House, Limmer Lane, Felpham, Bognor Regis.
The Manor House still exists today within Felpham Village.

Complaining to the King about the quality of stationery available in the village.

This is a thank you letter that I have that was written to King George IV just a few months prior to Cyril Jacksons death, it has been rumoured that the King did visit Cyril in Felpham, shortly after this letter, but I have been unable to verify this
